Are We Living for Jobs or for Life?

May 21, 2026 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com

Today, while travelling to college by metro, I deeply felt the helplessness of human life. The train was completely overcrowded. There was not even space to place a foot, yet people were still desperately trying to push themselves inside. Many were standing at the very edge of the train. Fear, anxiety, and helplessness were clearly visible on their faces.

My question is — do we work this hard in life only to reach a point where we do not even have five minutes to wait for the next train? Has human life become so cheap that people are ready to risk it just to reach the office on time?

I want to ask: are we living for jobs, or are jobs meant to serve human life? If a person is forced to live like this, are we not slowly turning life into something almost animal-like?

Seeing human beings struggle so much just to earn a living fills my heart with pain. I feel deep sadness when I see people trapped in helplessness, suffering, and the slavery of jobs.

I feel we need to sit quietly and question the direction of our lives. We need to reflect on the purpose of life and honestly analyze the way we are living.

We must ask ourselves: are we living only for jobs, fear, anxiety, and endless pressure? Is this really how we want to spend our entire lives?
