Action Over Illusion

May 24, 2026 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com

From the last couple of days, I have been thinking too much about the future of my PhD and the success of my book. I kept trying to motivate myself by reading plenty of books. One thing I noticed is that it only drained my mental energy and peace. I took many vows and determined myself to achieve my goals, but the reality is that I am not taking any action or steps toward them.

Recently, I read a book on determination. There I found a profound insight: determination and willpower alone are not enough. They need to be followed by action. I have to take action toward my goals. I kept motivating myself by giving examples of successful people, but all those people took action once they determined their goals.

Irrespective of how much I think, how much I imagine, or how fueled my willpower is, everything goes in vain if I do not act. Action and continuous effort, without getting discouraged by temporary defeat, will make me successful. The same thing I want to tell my readers: come out of the mere illusion of thinking. It is just a trick of the mind. The mind wants you to remain in illusion, in the shadow of reality.

Act, act, act for your dream. Even a small act is far more valuable than a thousand bursts of electrified willpower that never convert into action. Action is the cure for many problems. Action is the way to happiness. Action is the bridge between you and your dreams.

Yesterday, I read a story by Osho. In that story, he was trying to explain that we should not think about the whole journey at once. We should just take one step at a time.

So, the essence of all this is simple: take action, no matter how small it is. Otherwise, your mind will fool you again and again by trapping you in the illusion of thinking. Again and again, it will give you determination and vows to do something great one day, but that day will never come. Everything comes through action.
