Dr. Michael DeBakey was a doctor who dedicated his life to helping people with heart diseases. From a young age, he saw the suffering of patients in his father’s small medicine shop in America, and he decided that his life’s work would be to serve humanity, not just earn a living.

He studied medicine, became a skilled surgeon, and taught at universities, but he was not satisfied with fame or money. He wanted to create better treatments for heart patients and dreamed of building a hospital that could serve as a model for others. He married a nurse, Diana Cooper, who shared his dedication and helped him achieve his goals.

During World War II, he worked in army hospitals, giving the best care he could even in difficult conditions. Later, he developed new surgical techniques and contributed to the invention of the artificial heart, which saves lives when the real heart or lungs fail.

Dr. DeBakey lived like a karmayogi—a person dedicated to selfless work. He had a strict daily routine, worked long hours, and used every moment to study, teach, and help patients. Even in old age, he remained active, full of energy, and committed to improving medicine worldwide.

He wrote hundreds of research papers and shared his knowledge globally, always thinking about the welfare of others. Dr. DeBakey’s life shows that true greatness comes from serving people, working with purpose, and combining skill with compassion.
