“Learning by Doing: The Most Powerful Way to Master Any Skill”
August 14, 2025 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com

From childhood, we have been taught the wrong way of learning — passive learning. Our teachers give lectures, and we simply listen to them. This has become our learning style, continuing even up to higher education and PhD level.
But I do not agree with this at all. The reason is that this kind of learning can never be productive. It leaves us as soon as we finish our exams.
The type of learning I support is Learning by Doing!
Any skill or knowledge can be learned better only through actual practice. For example, swimming — no matter how much we explain to a child, telling them, “Do it this way” or “Do it that way,” it will be of no use until the child actually gets into the water and starts swimming.
Similarly, we read about kindness, helping others, and empathy from our childhood. But are we able to practice it? The answer is, 90% of us are not able to. The reason is that ethics should be applied practically. We may think about empathy or doing good deeds, but until we actually start doing them, our learning is useless.
I will give my own example. Earlier, I used to dream of writing books like Napolean hill or James allen, but I never started writing. I only sat and read their books. I was also confused about what kind of writer I wanted to be — self-help, essayist, or philosopher.
I got the answer to all my questions by writing. As I kept writing, I discovered my own style. I found that my style is in writing about the joys and sorrows of human experience in a simple way. My style is like that of an essayist, not self-help writing.
But when did I learn all this? I understood myself only after writing a lot. In the same way, if anyone wants to master any skill or knowledge, they must practice it. It is possible that you may not perform well in the beginning. Still, by practicing continuously, that skill will become a part of your personality.
That is why we must convert our passive learning learning by doing.
