Embracing Solitude: The Wisdom of Old Age
November 30, 2024 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com

While returning home, I saw an old woman sitting outside her house on a chair. Sadness and loneliness were clearly visible on her face. This reflects a profound truth of life: we come into this world alone, live through it alone at times, and eventually depart alone. Yes, we may have sons, brothers, and husbands who accompany us for a part of the journey, but ultimately, we are left with ourselves.
Old age, however, can also prove to be a blessing. At a certain stage in life, we step out of the race for luxury and material possessions, giving us the opportunity to spend time with ourselves. This time can be used to truly understand and explore who we are.
Unfortunately, the opposite often happens. Many spend this phase of life in sadness. In my observation, most people are unhappy because their expectations have been shattered. They hope their sons or daughters will stay with them and care for them, but when this doesn’t happen, they feel deeply hurt.
In my opinion, the only solution to loneliness, especially in old age, is to embrace it. Accept it as a natural phase of life and use it for your personal growth and enlightenment. This is the final stage of life, where you can reconnect with your inner child and fulfill dreams you couldn’t pursue in your youth due to family responsibilities.
My advice to those in this stage of life is to immerse yourself in meditation and books. Reading is not just a pastime; it is a powerful tool that empowers you with knowledge and uplifts your spirit. It can transform loneliness into a heavenly experience.
