– “Bad Luck Winner: Lawrence Mann”
December 30, 2025 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com
Lawrence Mann was a hardworking farmer from Minnesota, USA. In the winter of 1958, while returning home through heavy snow, a big tree fell on him. He remained buried in snow for many hours in extreme cold. When he was finally found and taken to the hospital, doctors could not save his legs. Both his legs were paralyzed.
This was a huge shock for Lawrence. Farming was his life. He had a big farm, many cows, turkeys, and three small children. At first, he felt broken, but he did not lose hope. His wife Mary stood by him and encouraged him. She told him that they were one, and her legs were his legs too.
After months in the hospital, Lawrence returned home with strong determination. At first, he failed and even fell sick again while trying to drive a tractor using only his hands. But he did not give up. He exercised his arms, made them stronger, and slowly learned to do farm work without legs.
Lawrence changed the way he worked. He invented new machines and tools to save labor. He made systems to feed thousands of chickens automatically, manage animals easily, and even melt snow for water. His farm became more productive than before.
The American government rewarded him for his excellent corn production. Farmers from many places came to learn from him. A man without legs achieved more than many able-bodied people.
Message of the story:
Accidents and difficulties test a person’s courage. If we do not give up and use our mind and determination, even bad luck can turn into success. Lawrence Mann proved that strong willpower can defeat any hardship.
