Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein, known as the father of relativity, lived a very simple and disciplined life. Once, during heavy rain in Germany, he protected his hat inside his coat instead of his head. When asked why, he replied that his head would dry, but replacing a damaged hat would waste time and money—time he valued for his important scientific work.

Einstein believed that limiting personal needs helps a person achieve greatness. He was born in 1871 in Ulm, Germany. As a child, he was considered slow by his teachers. Determined to improve, he followed his teacher’s advice: “Practice makes a person progress.” Through continuous effort, he developed exceptional intelligence, especially in mathematics.

Despite financial difficulties, he studied at Zurich Polytechnic (now ETH Zurich). After struggling to find a job, he eventually worked at a patent office, where he developed revolutionary scientific ideas. He published his famous Theory of Relativity in Annalen der Physik, which later made him world-famous.

In 1919, experiments confirmed his theory. During Hitler’s rule in Germany, Einstein, being Jewish, moved to the United States and worked at Princeton University. He continued living simply, asking only for basic items in his office—a blackboard, chalk, a table, and chairs.

Though his theory contributed to the development of atomic energy, he was deeply saddened when atomic bombs were used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He regretted that his discovery was misused for destruction.

Einstein died in 1954, but his life remains an example of hard work, simplicity, faith, and dedication to knowledge. His story shows that through practice, determination, and limited desires, an ordinary person can achieve extraordinary greatness.
