A famous surgeon lived in an American city. He was not only highly skilled in medicine but also deeply cared about people. He always tried to help those in need.
Every day, he bought a newspaper from a young boy named Johnny. The boy had a crippled leg and could not walk properly. The surgeon felt sorry for him and wanted to help.
One day, the doctor asked Johnny, “Would you like me to cure your leg so that you can run and play like other children?”
Johnny was happy but worried. He told the doctor that he did not have enough money to pay for an operation.
The surgeon smiled and said that he would do the operation for free. He wanted to help the boy out of love, not for money.
A Prayer That Touched a Heart
On the day of the operation, Johnny made a special request. Before receiving anesthesia, he wanted to pray.
The boy prayed aloud, “God, grant the surgeon a long life so that he may save the lives of many other people.”
These simple words deeply touched the surgeon’s heart.
After the operation, the doctor said, “In my life, I have operated on many important people and received large amounts of money. But I have never felt as much satisfaction as I felt while helping this young boy.”
The Moral of the Story
This story teaches us that true happiness comes from helping others. Money can bring comfort, but it cannot always bring inner satisfaction.
When we serve people with love and without expecting anything in return, we experience a deeper joy. Even a small act of kindness can change someone’s life and fill our own hearts with happiness.
Real success is not measured by wealth or status. It is measured by the good we do for others.
