Socrates: Burning desire to get success

A burning desire to be, and to do, is the starting point from which the dreamer must take off.” -Napoleon Hill

Once, a boy approached the great philosopher Socrates to ask for the secret of success. Socrates told him to come back the next day. When the boy returned, Socrates instructed him to follow him. Socrates walked ahead and entered a river, and the boy followed him.

As soon as they reached the middle of the river, Socrates turned back, grabbed the boy by the neck, and pushed him underwater. He held him there until the boy started struggling.

After some time, Socrates pulled him out, and the boy gasped for air, taking deep breaths. Socrates then asked, “When I held you underwater, what did you need the most?” The boy replied, “Air.”

Socrates said, “This is the secret of success: When you desire success as intensely as you need air, then you will achieve success.”

Success demands a burning desire. To achieve any worthy goal, you must be as thirsty as a man in the desert.

Ramakrishna Paramahans once said, “There are two types of desires: the first is weak, and the second is hot and Intense”.

If you want to fulfill your dreams, you must belong to the second category—one that constantly fuels your motivation and drives you toward your goal.
