Step by Step Osho story

Once, Osho remembered an incident. There was a beautiful mountain near a village, and on top of that mountain, there was a temple. The temple was about ten miles away from the village. People could see the temple shining from far away.

Everyone in the village used to look at the temple and think, “Someday, I will go there.”But one young man from the village always said, “It’s too far. How can I go? The mountain is so high, and it’s ten miles away. I’ll never reach there.”

🌌 The Dark Night

One night, it was very dark. The young man suddenly felt a strong desire to visit the temple.

He thought, “Let me go today!” But when he looked around, it was a stormy night — full of mist and darkness.He only had a small lantern(light) (लालटेन) in his hand that gave light for only two steps ahead.

He thought, “How can I walk ten miles with this tiny light? I can only see two steps. How will I see the whole path?” He became scared and said to himself, “When the morning comes and there is sunlight, I will go then.”

🌠 The Old Man’s Advice

At that moment, an old man from the village came by. He saw the young man sitting there and said, “Why are you afraid? Don’t worry about the whole path. Your lantern gives enough light for two steps, right?”

The young man replied, “Yes, but the temple is ten miles away!”The old man smiled and said,“ If you walk two steps, the light will move forward too. Then you will see the next two steps. Keep walking — one steps at a time — and you will reach the temple.”

🌞 The Lesson

The young man followed the old man’s advice. He started walking step by step with the small lantern.

Every one steps, the light moved ahead and showed him the next part of the path. By walking like this, slowly and patiently, he finally reached the temple safely — even in the dark night.

Moral / Message (Osho’s Teaching)

Osho explains that life is like that journey. We often want to see our whole future clearly before we start doing something —but life only shows us a little part at a time.

If we just take the first step with faith, the next step will appear. We don’t need to see the whole road; we just need courage to begin.👉 Take one step at a time — with trust, patience, and light in your heart — and you will reach your goal.
