I have a dream to create a new kind of education system. I have seen this dream because our existing system of education is outdated and ineffective in curing human suffering and solving real-life problems.
First, I would like to mention the shortcomings of our present education system.
- It is disconnected from real life. There is a huge gap between what we are taught in schools and colleges and what we actually face in life.
- There are plenty of great books and moral stories that are never included in our syllabus.
- Our education system has also failed to make us good human beings.
Now, I would like to share my solutions through my new model of education.
First Solution: Bridging the Practical Application Gap
One major problem is the lack of practical application. For example, today millions of highly educated people suffer from anxiety, depression, and a lack of purpose. Do you know why? Because the books taught in schools never deal with such real-life problems.
In my education system, students should learn about these issues from an early age. We must teach them books like How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie, The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday, and biographies of great people to make them capable of facing life’s challenges.
Second Solution: Including Books That Build Character
Subjects like history, geography, and science are important, but they alone are not enough to make someone a good human being. We must include great books in our syllabus such as The Buddha and His Dhamma, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, As a Man Thinketh, and moral stories book.
I don’t understand why our education system limits learning to only academic subjects. There are so many great books in the world — from novels to self-help — that are never taught in schools and universities. Why do we deprive students of such deep and transformative knowledge?
In my view, these books are equally important, if not more important, than academic textbooks. For example, I have forgotten most of what I studied in school and college, but I still remember the stories of O. Henry, Tolstoy, and lessons from self-help and philosophical books.
Therefore, I believe there should be a separate subject called “Wisdom of Books”, where the timeless knowledge from great books is taught to students.
Third Solution: Education for Humanity
For me, the ultimate purpose of education is to help people become good, compassionate, and wise human beings. Unfortunately, our current education system mainly produces money-making individuals, not moral ones. That is why even highly educated people are involved in crimes and unethical acts.
I believe students should be taught from nursery class onward that the ultimate aim of life is to become a good human being — compassionate, loving, and helpful. This can only be achieved by including the kinds of books I mentioned earlier — the ones that nurture the heart, not just the mind.
I firmly believe that one day, I will be able to create this kind of education system. That is why I dream of establishing my own school and university — an institution that not only teaches subjects but also teaches how to live a meaningful, moral, and fulfilling life.
