Memory storage

September 22, 2026 | by aashishgautam265@gmail.com

Memory storage means keeping information in your memory after you learn it. The brain holds information for some time. Some memories stay for a few seconds. Others can stay for many years. For example, you may remember a phone number for a few seconds after hearing it. But you may remember your childhood school for many years.

There are three main types of memory storage. Sensory memory holds information for a very short time. Short-term memory holds information for a short period, usually while you are using it. Long-term memory stores information for a long time. For example, when you study Plato, you may first hold the information in short-term memory. After learning and revising it, some of it can become a long-term memory.
